Verifying Chinese steel suppliers for buyers in Tanzania

Tanzanian buyers importing through Dar es Salaam often buy coil for roofing production, where coating mass and colour consistency decide whether the finished sheet survives the market. Verification before shipment is the cheapest control point.

What is different about buying steel into Tanzania

Much of Tanzania's galvanized and colour-coated coil is converted locally into roofing sheet. That means the buyer is not just reselling a coil, they are selling a finished product whose performance depends on the coating that was on the coil when it arrived.

Tropical humidity and UV exposure put pressure on both the zinc coating mass and the paint system, which is why a slightly cheaper coil with a lighter coating is rarely cheaper over a season of complaints.

Products Tanzanian buyers most often verify

  • Galvanized steel coil — the substrate for roofing sheet, where Z value and spangle decide the finished product.
  • PPGI and PPGL coil — colour-coated roofing, where paint system and batch colour matter for repeat production.
  • Steel pipe and fittings — water and structural applications.
  • Structural sections for fabrication and construction projects.

Practical points on the buying side

  • Coating specification. Agree the Z value and paint system in writing, and verify them before the container is sealed.
  • Colour continuity. For roofing production, ask the factory how it controls colour between batches and whether it retains samples.
  • Packing. Dar es Salaam transit plus inland haulage is hard on coil edges; specify packing rather than accept the default.
  • Payment. We do not hold or transfer payment for goods. Contract and payment terms remain between you, your bank and the supplier.

How we verify a supplier for a Tanzanian buyer

We visit the plant in Tangshan or the surrounding Hebei belt, record a continuous walkthrough with English commentary, verify identity, equipment, stock and activity against the site, and deliver a written English report within three to five working days.

Where the coil feeds a roofing line, we ask specifically about coating control and colour records, because those are the two things your own customers will notice first.

Questions buyers ask

Tanzanian buyer questions

Do you inspect coil that will be slit locally in Tanzania?

Yes. Slitting and recoiling is a normal next step and does not change what we verify at the mill. If the supplier slits in China before shipping, we check that line as well.

Can you verify a supplier we have already used for two years?

Yes, and it is worth doing. Suppliers change lines, subcontract coating and change ownership. A periodic re-verification is cheaper than discovering a change through a complaint.

How do we pay you?

Terms are agreed in the written scope before any work starts. We do not accept payment from the supplier for inspection work.
