Steel factory inspection in China, for buyers who cannot visit
A recorded walkthrough, on-site verification and a written English report on the steel supplier you are considering in Tangshan or the wider Hebei belt. Commissioned by the buyer, delivered before your money moves.
What a steel factory inspection actually is
You have a quotation, a specification and a company name. What you do not have is any way to confirm that the company exists at the address it claims, that the equipment it describes is on that site, or that the person answering your email works for a mill rather than a trading office with a rented showroom.
An inspection closes that gap. We travel to the site, walk it with a camera running, ask your questions out loud, and write down what we saw in plain business English. It is a factual record of one day at one plant, produced for you and not for the supplier.
The test of a good inspection report is simple: can your commercial director, your bank or your own customer read it without you explaining it? Ours is written to be forwarded.
What we check on site
The list below is the standing scope. You can add questions and we will put them to the plant on camera.
- Identity. Business licence, company name, unified social credit code and registered address matched against the site, the gate signage and the documents on the wall.
- Site type. Whether the location is a rolling mill, a coating or slitting plant, a fabricator, a warehouse, or an office. This single answer changes how you should read every other claim.
- Equipment. Production lines present, name plates filmed in frame, stated annual capacity compared with what is physically installed.
- Activity. Whether lines are running, how many shifts operate, how much material is in the yard, and whether loading is happening on the day.
- Stock and traceability. Coil markings, mill certificates where available, internal diameter and packing condition of finished stock.
- Quality control. Whether a QC function exists at the plant, what it measures, and what records it keeps.
- Documentation. Certificates and test reports as provided by the factory, with a note on which we saw the original of and which were copies.
Recorded remote inspection
If you cannot travel, the recording is the substitute for being there. We film continuously rather than editing a highlight reel, because the useful information is often in what a supplier did not expect to be filmed: an empty bay, a line that is not running, or stock that does not match the specification.
- A single continuous take, with English voice commentary
- Gate, licence, yard, line, QC area, packing and loading bay
- Your specific questions asked on camera
- Name plates, line numbers and stock tags filmed in frame
- Delivered as a file or a private link, not a public upload
The written English inspection report
The report is the deliverable most clients forward internally. It is a structured PDF in plain business English, typically eight to fifteen pages depending on scope, and it contains:
- Company profile, ownership and site description
- Equipment and capacity observed, with photographs
- Product scope actually seen on site
- Findings, risk notes and questions we recommend you ask next
- A clear assessment you can act on, without a scoring gimmick
What it is not: a certificate, an accreditation, a test report or a quality guarantee. Those are different products from different organisations. Read our terms before you commission work if that distinction matters to your process.
Specimen, not a client case study
We do not publish client names, factory names or photographs from live commissions. Any example report shown on this site is a clearly labelled specimen with a blank reference number, and it exists to show the structure and tone rather than to prove a specific outcome.
How pricing works
We do not publish a headline per-inspection price, because a real quote depends on four things: travel distance within the Tangshan area, how many sites are involved, how long the factory will allow us on site, and whether you need video, document verification, or both.
What we do commit to is the process: a written scope and a fixed fee, agreed before we travel, with no fee until you approve it. If the job turns out to be outside our coverage or competence, we say so instead of quoting.
| Engagement | What it covers | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|
| Single site verification | One plant, one visit, recorded video plus written report | Fixed fee after scope confirmation |
| Two-site comparison | Two candidate plants in the Tangshan area, one trip, one comparative report | Fixed fee after scope confirmation |
| Document and desk review | Licence, certification and quotation consistency check without a site visit | Fixed fee after scope confirmation |
| Ongoing sourcing support | Shortlisting, quotations, samples, third-party inspection coordination | Scoped per category or per milestone |
Third-party laboratory testing and formal pre-shipment inspection are billed by the inspection body, not by us. We can arrange and attend them, and we tell you their fee separately.
Timing
On-site visits in Tangshan are typically arranged within two to five working days of you approving the scope, subject to the factory's availability. The report normally follows within three to five working days of the visit. Remote recorded walkthroughs can often be scheduled sooner once the factory agrees to a filming window.
These are typical figures, not guarantees. Peak season, plant shutdowns and inspection access all move the date, and we will tell you honestly if your deadline is not realistic.
Where we work
Tangshan and the surrounding Hebei steel belt: Qian'an, Fengnan, Fengrun and Lubei districts, plus nearby Tianjin and Cangzhou. If your supplier is in another province, tell us the city. We will either confirm coverage and cost or decline, rather than send someone who does not know the local market.
Send us the factory you are considering
Product, supplier name or city, and your order size. You get a written scope and a fixed fee before we travel.
Inspection questions
What does the recorded remote inspection involve?
We visit the factory in person and record a continuous, unedited video with English commentary from the gate to the packing area: signage, business licence, stock yard, the production line running, quality control, packing and the loading bay. You send questions in advance and we ask them on camera. The video is delivered as a file or a private link together with the written report.
Can you inspect a trading company rather than a mill?
Yes, and it is often the most useful job we do. Many Chinese suppliers are trading companies presenting a mill's yard as their own. We check the registered address, the licence, the staff, the stock and whether any production actually happens at that location, then tell you plainly which of the three you are dealing with: a mill, a processing plant, or a trading office.
What if the factory refuses to be filmed?
You hear it from us before we travel. Most plants in Tangshan allow filming in the yard and on the line, but some restrict the control room or a specific customer's stock. If recording is refused outright we will tell you, confirm whether a non-video verification is still worth doing, and you decide whether to proceed.
Do you check quality during the inspection?
We record observable condition: surface, edges, coil wrapping, markings, stock age and how the line is set up. We do not test mechanical properties or coating mass in a laboratory, and we do not certify compliance with a standard. For that you need a third-party inspection and test programme, which we can coordinate for you.
What if the supplier is outside Tangshan?
We cover Tangshan and the surrounding Hebei steel belt, including Qian'an, Fengnan, Fengrun and Lubei, plus nearby Tianjin and Cangzhou. For other cities, tell us where and we will confirm coverage and cost, or decline the job rather than send someone who does not know the local market.
Do you accept commission from the factory?
No. Inspection work is commissioned and paid for by the buyer. We do not take a supplier commission for inspection, and we will tell you if we have any prior relationship with a company we are asked to review.
